CAP4Kids Provides Family-Friendly Resources, Events for Central Ohio Residents

The Children’s Advocacy Project, better known as CAP4Kids, can help Ohio residents find community agencies and resources to improve the lives of children and families. The CAP4Kids mission is to help bridge the gap between local, quality social service agencies and the families that need their help the most.

In 2010, Children’s Practicing Pediatricians (CPP) teamed up with Nationwide Children’s Hospital to bring the CAP4Kids website to Columbus. CAP4Kids represents a joint effort between community physicians, hospital physicians and the social work department at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. CAP4Kids is part of a national project that started in Philadelphia in 2004.

The CAP4Kids website is updated weekly and contains tons of timely information, on everything from job programs for youth and teens, summer camps, fitness programs, mentoring resources, summer safety, teen dating safety and more! Each page on CAP4Kids can be easily translated into several different languages and also printed out.  Families can also sign up for the monthly newsletter to stay up to date on fun family events and community resources. Visit the CAP4Kids website to learn more.

Sign up for the e-newsletter, see past newsletters, and learn about free/low cost family activities under the Local, Fun & Free tab. And if you’re looking for a particular resource, such as child care, after school programs, housing information, safety tips, mentoring opportunities, and much more, check out the left-hand side of the website (visible on every page), titled Parent Handouts.

Visitors should also check out the Hotlines tab at the top, where national and local phone numbers are listed for mental health, suicide prevention, emergency shelter, food pantries, domestic violence and more.

Last, The Columbus Metropolitan Library has teamed up with CAP4Kids to create a series of wonderful book lists for families on a wide range of topics. Topics include adoption, death and grief, healthy eating, special needs and more. These books are all available at your local library. You can find the list under the Book Lists tab.
